RUN DMC Meets Rocker Chic
I celebrated New Year's Eve in my hometown of CHICAGO, one of the most beautiful cities in the world! #RideOrDie The problem was that the temperature for NYE was right around the 0°-10°F mark. Now, I was born and raised in Chicago. 40°F is no-coat weather for us. But 0°-10°F with that biting wind? Sooo not feeling it. Even though I would be inside for the festivities, I wanted to dress warm and cozy.
Enter the text convo with my stylish friend, E.C. We were going to a couple of parties but I didn't know too much about it. The texting went a little something like this:
Me: "Is this thing casual?"
Me: "Like sweatshirt casual?"
E.C: "All sweatshirts are not equal. Make it work. I'll be hitting them with one of my signature looks. Adidas + Kangol = Fucking legendary"
Me: "I'm going modern 80's. Adidas & gold chains."
And then he sent me this...
Thus, my NYE style inspiration was born: My fashion ode to RUN DMC, one of the most influential groups in hip hop culture and the first hip hop group to receive a million-dollar endorsement deal. Black, white & gold. Easy, fresh, fly. All with Lotta à la Mode vintage steez, of course.
I just scored a sweet Adidas sweatshirt earlier that day which served as my signature piece. I paired the sweatshirt with BCBG leggings with leather panels and Altuzarra for Target ankle booties. I saw the A D I D A S in bold white letters across the sweatshirt as the parallel for the white hot Adidas Superstars RUN DMC rocked in their signature look.
Jewelry & Accessories
For my 80's-inspired jewelry, I went less big-gold-chain and more feminine multi-strand gold chains. I scooped up this gorg Christian Dior vintage necklace at a Chicago festival. It has eight sexy rope chains. My bracelet is a vintage Erwin Pearl. I scored this piece from an eBay dig. The earrings and gold-tone bangle bracelets are from my non-vintage collection. The black and white fold-over clutch was a Banana Republic find.
