Deluxe Redux took the World Vintage series on a bucket-list trip to Athens, Greece last month. As I enjoyed my first delicious meal at Oineas, I noticed the restaurant was adorned in wall-to-wall antiques with mint condition signs, cannisters, advertisements and cosmetic cases. Restauranteur Christina Korda has been an antique collector for over 35 years and owns every piece proudly displayed in her restaurant. I couldn't help but share some photos of her antiques.
Christina was such a joy to speak with and, as an passionate collector, she was the perfect person to give me the scoop on her favorite vintage shops in Athens. She directed me to Protogenous Street in Psirri. This eclectic neighborhood in the center of Athens is home to bars, restaurants and independent boutiques selling goodies like handmade fashion accessories, vintage, antiques, fabric, and vinyl records. There were a handful of vintage stores along the primary route alone. Think: Soho of Athens.
One of the vintage stores that caught my eye was Γουαδελούπη (Guadeloupe). Owner and costume designer Angeliki Danopoulo opened in December 2013 and specializes in clothing, shoes and accessories from the 50s through the 90s. The two-story boutique separates the vintage between the 1st Floor (Women's) and 2nd floor (Men's). Angeliki imports her vintage and second-hand pieces from the Netherlands, the UK and Greece.
